A 17-year-old Kenyan girl has won prestigious Quran competition award after emerging top in the global competition.
Muna Aabdifarah was crowned at a colorful event held in the US after she beat her competitors in the Quran recitation competition to bag the award.
The 2nd Annual American International Tibyan Quran Competition was staged in Minnesota.
The form two girl comes from Musa’b Educational and Islamic Center in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
The event was awarded by Tybian Center for Sciences, a charity Organisation.
“Mabrouk (congratulations) to our first-place winner of the women category: Muna Abdifarah,” the center said after declaring the Kenyan girl the winner of the competition.
Abdifarah is set to jet back to the country on Wednesday evening from the US.
The first-place winner of the men’s category was Omar Afouf from France.
“Congratulations to our winners, and a heartfelt thank you to all the participants, judges, and our supportive community,” the Center said.
Abdifarah was accompanied by her teacher, who is also the director of the Musa’b Educational Center Jama Wardere and international Quran scholar Abdirashid Ali Sufi.
Last year, Aabdifarah finished in third place globally, in the competition.
Musa’b Educational Center was established in 199. Since its inception, it has been participating in Quran competitions held within and outside the country where it was ranked as the best Madarasa in those competitions.
The school was ranked first and third in the international Quran competition held in Rwanda and Dubai respectively.
In 2012, the Center became an integrated institution – Educational Center and Islamic Center.
The Center has planned a fundraiser on July 23, with Defense CS Aden Duale as the chief guest to improve its facilities.
