State doubles allocation to Helb fund in new budget

Students will now be able to study smoothly after the Kenya Kwanza government doubled funds for Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

According to the 2023-24 Financial Year Budget, HELB has been allocated Sh30 billion up from Sh15 billion.

This is part of the Kenya Kwanza government's Sh3.68 trillion 2023-24 budget.

The budget estimates were presented in Parliament by Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u on June 15, 2023.

Last Year, the Higher Education Loans board was allocated Sh15.8 billion.

Further, university education has been allocated 97.5 billion.

In addition, the state has allocated 2.7 billion in the Kenya Secondary Education sector for quality improvement projects.

Further, the Research, Science, Technology and Innovation have received Sh749 million.

President William Ruto had announced that the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) will be given enough funds to lend to students across the country.

He spoke at Kisii National Polytechnic on March 23, 2023, during his 3-day visit to the Kisii, Nyamira and Migori counties.
