Church donates Sh124 million to help with drought situation

Gachagua said donation will benefit 40,000 house holds, an equivalent of 200,000 people.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday received USD 1 million (Sh124) million from the church towards support in drought-stricken areas

In a statement, Gachagua said donations from The Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints will benefit 40,000 households an equivalent of 200,000 people.

"We appreciate our friends and partners for their continued support towards Kenyans affected by the drought situation, especially in ASAL counties," he said.

The United States has also committed to helping with funds to assist Kenya with the ongoing drought situation.

The Ministry of East Africa Community (EAC), Arid and Semi-arid Lands (ASALs) and Regional Development announced.

This comes after the Cabinet Secretary for EAC, ASALs and Regional Development Rebecca Miano met with US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman on Tuesday.
