Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has taken a swipe at Police IG Japheth Koome for calling police watchdog Ipoa a busybody.

Haji said on Wednesday that it was uncalled for and unfortunate for the new IG to dismiss the work of a constitutional body that has been pivotal in reforming the security sector.

He said Ipoa's role was indispensable and that "if you want to challenge them, do it within the constitution."

"Police must only use commensurate force in dealing with criminals, anything else is illegal."

He said his office will continue holding police officers accountable and prosecute the errant ones who exhibit impunity and use excessive force to the fullest extent of the law.
