Senators will today convene to consider Mwangaza's ouster following her impeachment by Meru MCAs last week.

The lawmakers will decide whether to prosecute the case through a special committee or in plenary in line with Section 33 of the County Governments Act.

Last Wednesday, 67 MCAs voted to impeach the governor citing nepotism, illegal appointments, unlawful dismissals, incitement, bullying, misleading campaigns against other leaders and misconduct.

Through the actions, the MCAs argued, the governor breached the Constitution and other laws.

CS Kuria in Saudi Arabia for bilateral talks

Trade and Investments CS Moses Kuria is in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia for bilateral talks on Trade and Investment partnerships.

Kuria will be in Riyadh for three days. 

He was on Monday received and hosted for dinner by his counterparts minister for Commerce and Media Majid Al Qassabi, Minister for Investments Khaled Al Falihand other high-ranking leaders in the public and private Sectors. 

CSs Kindiki, Murkomen, IG Koome to hold presser on road safety

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and the IG of the National Police Service, Japheth Koome to address the media on road safety during the 2022 festive season.

The press conference will be at Harambee House Steps.

Wajir governor’s election petition hearings

The Wajir gubernatorial election petition will continue today at the Milimani law courts in Nairobi with more witnesses expected to testify.

Governor Ahmed Abdullahi’s victory during the August 9 polls was challenged by his rival Hassan Mohammed who claims the election was not free and fair.

Both the petitioner and the governor have given their testimonies before High Court judge George Dulu.

Hassan particularly claims the postponement of elections in Eldas constituency suppressed voter turn out to his advantage.

Governor Abdullahi however says the elections were free and fair and that the delays in Eldas were occasioned by insecurity challenges met by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Sensitisation on Road Safety Campaign 

Matatu Owners Association together with stakeholders in the transport sector will have a joint flag-off towards creating sensitization on Road Safety Campaign during the festive season and beyond.

The event will be held at Green park terminus and thereafter a joint press conference to be held by MOA, Transport Stakeholders, Road crash victims and Government representation.

Weinstein found guilty in second sex crimes trial

Former Hollywood film mogul Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty by a Los Angeles jury of raping a woman.

The two-month trial heard how Weinstein used his influence to lure women into private meetings before attacking them.

The 70-year-old Oscar winner is facing up to 24 years in prison when he is sentenced.

He is already serving 23 years in jail after he was convicted of rape and sexual assault at his first trial in New York two years ago.

Weinstein was found guilty on Monday of rape and two sexual assault charges involving an accuser known as Jane Doe 1, to protect her anonymity.

France receive heroes' welcome in Paris after World Cup heartbreak

The French national football team has returned from Qatar to large crowds in Paris, after their heroic defeat to Argentina in the World Cup final.

Kylian Mbappé, the French star who scored a hat-trick in what was one of greatest finals in the tournament's history, was front and centre.

Fans let off fireworks on the Place de la Concorde.

France came from behind twice in the final, which ended 3-3, before Argentina won the penalty shootout 4-2.

Trump-era border policy creates a headache for Biden

The US Supreme Court has put on hold the termination of a Trump-era policy that has blocked thousands of people from crossing the US-Mexico border.

Attempted migrant crossings are expected to spike if and when the controversial policy does go.

Title 42 gives the government the power to automatically expel undocumented migrants seeking entry. The policy was designed to stop the spread of Covid-19.
