Kenya lost 27-12 to South Africa and drew 19-19 with Australia in their opening two matches of the Dubai Sevens Series.
The competition follows a week of turbulence which saw senior players complain on social media over the non-payment of salaries and allowances.
In the first match against Australia, Damian McGrath's charges led 14-7 at the interval after tries by Billy Odhiambo and Herman Humwa pepped up by two conversions from Tony Omondi.
Australia, winners of the Hong Kong leg last month, replied through Josh Turner. On resumption, the Aussies levelled matters courtesy of Henry Patterson, who powered his way over the line with Dietrich Roach slotting home the conversion to tie the match at 14-14.
Willy Ambaka scored Shujaa's third try with Aussie playmaker Maurice Longbottom crossing the line to tie the thrilling encounter.
Kenya were, however, no match for their African rivals in the second pool game — trailing 17-0 at the interval.
The Blitzbokke, who had lost their opening match 14-5 to England, were quick off the blocks with tries from JC Pretorius, Ryan Oohuisen and Impi Visser.
On resumption, Dewald Human and Richard Duartee scored a five pointer each as Omondi and Dennis Abukuse scored two late consolation tries.
Kenya play England at 7:18pm in their final pool match.
