Presidential aspirant  Walter Mong'are's clearance to vie for the presidency has been revoked.

The aspirant is now locked out of the August 9, presidential race.

This comes a week after he was cleared to vie on Monday, May 30.

Independent Electoral of Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula  Chebukati says upon verification of his documents, it became apparent that he was not qualified.

The information, he stated, was not available to the returning officer on the day he was cleared.

"Upon the emergence of some new information and upon verification, it became clear he lacked academic qualifications and so we had to revoke his clearance certificate," he stated.

He further stated that upon being summoned, he refused to appear before the commission.

Chebukati reminded successful candidates to abide by the electoral code of conduct during the campaign period.

The IEBC chair assured Kenyans of transparency in the exercise saying they are also ready to deliver credible polls.

The exit of Mong'are now reduces the number of presidential candidates cleared to four.

Those cleared are Azimio la Umoja One Kenya flag-bearer Raila Odinga, Kenya Kwanza’s William Ruto, Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah and Agano Party’s David Mwaure.
