Nguu Masumba MCA Harrison Ngui has died following a grisly road accident along Mombasa road.

Police, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said Ngui died on the spot.

Mukaa Sub-County Police Commander Jacinta Mwarania said the incident occurred at ACK area at around 6.30pm.

Mwarania said an unknown female passenger who was in the same vehicle with Ngui succumbed while being rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

The accident was a head on collision between a Prado that Ngui was driving and a trailer.

The police report filed at Salama Police Station said the driver of the truck who was heading towards Mombasa overtook several vehicles before colliding with Ngui's vehicle which was coming from the opposite direction.

"Salama police station is reporting a fatal injury road traffic accident which occurred today 15/06/2021 at about 1830hrs within ACK area along Mombasa Nairobi highway," the report read in part.

Their bodies were taken to the Machakos Level Five hospital mortuary.

The MCA was driving a Toyota Prado registration number KBC 555U during the incident. His car rammed into an oncoming trailer registration number KCH 215G/ZF4201, make Sharkman.

Both the vehicles have been towed to Salama police station.

This comes a few days after the National Transport and Safety Authority said the country loses approximately 3,000 lives to road accidents.

According to the authority’s chairperson Agnes Odhiambo, this costs the country Sh300 million annually which is about 5 per cent of the GDP.

“Out of the 3,000 lives we lose, 1,575 lives are lost through boda boda accidents, which is about 40 per cent of the total lives lost,” Odhiambo said.
