Lands ministry approves Konza City development plan

The ministry of Lands has approved the Konza local physical development plan marking a step further to realisation of the planned Konza city.The plan which was approved on February 25, includes an infrastructure plan and overall costing plan for Phase 1 of the city. The director of physical planning, Augustine Masinde said said yesterday in a newspaper advertisement it had handed back the approved plan to the ministry of Information and communication.

The ministry of Lands has approved the Konza local physical development plan marking a step further to realisation of the planned Konza city.

The plan which was approved on February 25, includes an infrastructure plan and overall costing plan for Phase 1 of the city.

The director of physical planning, Augustine Masinde said said yesterday in a newspaper advertisement it had handed back the approved plan to the ministry of Information and communication.

The local physical development was prepared by the Centre for Urban and Regional Planning.

"The approval of this Plan was informed by the Government’s decision to initiate the implementation of Konza as a flagship projects under the economic pillar of Vision 2030 in the medium term (2015)" said the Information ministry on the Konza city website.

The implementation plan will include the required funding and risk allocation to public and private sources which is currently expected to be mainly public investment in the initial years.

Information minister Samuel Poghisio has already appointment the members to serve on the board of Konza Technopolis City Development Authority led by John Ngumi, an Investment banker.

The authority is tasked with ensuring capital budget allocation from government in order to build the public infrastructure, sign concession agreements with third party utility providers for electricity, water and sewer, and coordinate with government ministries and county governments for services such as schools, police, fire and others.

KOTDA is now awaiting to be staffed.The ministry is also in the process of procuring the second master delivery partner who will do land lease negotiations with parcel developers and construction management for public infrastructure in the city.
