Kenya announced its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020, news that caught most Kenyans unawares. 

Coronavirus has been spreading in different parts of the world, leaving many confused about what they should do.

The symptoms of the virus are quite similar to those of the flu, but how do you differentiate between the flu and coronavirus?

 
 
 
 

Coronavirus is the name of a group of viruses that are named because they have the appearance of a crown.  These viruses have been known for decades as causes of upper respiratory infections in people, never very serious. 

The flu is a common viral infection that can be deadly, especially in high-risk groups. The flu attacks the lungs, nose, and throat. 

One can easily confuse the common flu for coronavirus.

The symptoms for coronavirus are fever which is quite common, one can experience headaches, general aches and pains, fatigue and weakness and extreme exhaustion can be present.

It has been reported that one can also experience a stuffy nose, sneezing, and a sore throat. 

Coughing is also common and shortness of breath can be experienced in more serious infections.

As for the flu, the fever is high and can last three to four days and headaches are quite intense. 

 
 

General aches and pains are often severe while fatigue and weakness are intense and can last up to two to three weeks.

Extreme exhaustion starts early and one can experience a stuffy nose and sneezing at times.

Sore throats and coughs are common and the coughs can become severe. Shortness of breath is rare when you have flu.

The incubation period of a coronavirus patient is between 1-14 days and may go up to 24 days. As for the flu, it takes 1-4 days.

For treatment, there are no vaccines or antiviral drugs available for Coronavirus and only symptoms can be treated. For the flu and annual flu vaccine is available.
