TRANS Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has nominated 16 individuals to serve as county chief officers.

Natembeya said the move marks a key step in strengthening service delivery and leadership within the devolved unit.

He said the nominations follow the expiry of contracts for most of the chief officers serving in the respective dockets.

“As accounting officers, chief officers are critical in the direct management of departments. The appointments I have made bring on board individuals with the required skills and capacity to serve,” Natembeya said.

The nominations were communicated through an official executive letter dated May 25, 2026, and the names have been submitted to the county assembly clerk for vetting and approval before formal appointment.

Natembeya said the process was undertaken in line with Section 45 of the County Government Act, 2012, which requires governors to nominate chief officers subject to vetting and approval by the county assembly.

In the communication addressed to clerk Moses Lupao, the governor said: “I have nominated the persons named and hereby submit them for vetting and approval.”

He said the nominees are expected to provide technical and administrative leadership across key departments, including agriculture, infrastructure, governance, education, finance, youth affairs, lands, trade and social development.

He said the nominations reflect broad representation from sub-counties including Saboti, Kwanza, Cherangany, Endebess and Kiminini.

County officials said the appointments are intended to enhance efficiency, strengthen institutional coordination and support the implementation of the county’s development agenda across all sectors.

Natembeya, who is seeking a second term in office in next year’s elections, said he is focused on strengthening key departments to deliver on his mandate.

He highlighted priority areas including agriculture and irrigation services, financial accountability and procurement systems, governance and public service management, infrastructure and urban development, education and vocational training, and trade, tourism, culture and social development.

Among those nominated are Barasa Charles Wasike (Agriculture and Irrigation), Simiyu Waswa (Livestock and Fisheries), Godfrey Walubengo (Cooperative Development) and Ben Kwatemba (Economic Accounting and Procurement).

Others are Bernard Madegwa (Planning), Kapten Philip (Public Service Management), Chepkole Wilfred Yano (Governance) and Masika Samuel (Performance Management).
