A motorcycle rider died on the spot after he was hit from behind by a hit-and-run vehicle at Duka Moja area along the Narok- Maai Mahiu Road.

According to a police report, the rider, Ben Punyua, was riding towards Maai Mahiu when he was hit by a vehicle that failed to stop after the accident.

The motorcycle he was riding on is yet to be identified, as it was not found at the scene of the incident by the time of collecting the body.

The body was moved to Narok County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting postmortem.

The accident occurred a few days after two people were killed in the Olanini area along the Narok-Bomet highway after the motorbike they were riding on was involved in an accident.

The rider died on the spot, while his pillion passenger succumbed while undergoing treatment at Narok County Referral Hospital.

Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare has since warned motorbike riders to observe traffic rules to minimize cases of accidents along the road, saying over 70 per cent of accidents reported in the area involved motorbikes.

“Riders should be sober while riding along the road. They should ensure that both the rider and their pillion passengers are in a reflector jacket and have put on a helmet to minimize the impact in case of an accident,” he said.
