The ongoing Bomet-Mulot-Longisa water supply and Sanitation system water project will be completed mid-next year, Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Muuga has said.
Muuga said once complete, the Sh1.78 billion flagship project will provide safe, reliable, sustainable and affordable water supply and sanitation services to over 200,000 Bomet residents.
The project is financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and is being implemented by Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency as the Engineer and Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency as the Employer.
“The project has lagged behind and is 43 percent complete with substantial completion expected in June 2024,” Muuga said after inspecting the project.
He was accompanied by Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, Principal Secretary Julius Korir and Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency acting CEO CPA Douglas Murei among others.
The project will also include two booster pumping stations, seven water storage tanks with capacities ranging from 200m3 to 500m3, and the construction of four ablution blocks.
“We have visited the tanks and the treatment plant is at 30 percent in progress and we are working around the clock to finish the project within the time frame,” Muuga said.
He added that the land and way-leave issues that had hindered progress have been unlocked and the contractor has committed to deploy more resources to fast-track the works.
“In close collaboration with the governor, we resolved the land challenges in areas where the tanks and treatment plants were being put up, the contractor has now accessed the site and made a commitment to us that the treatment plant will be completed by December,” Muuga said.
The CS said that they are working hand-in-hand with the Bomet county government as the national government so that the project can be a success for the county residents.
