READY FOR USE: Uasin Gishu county commissioner Abdi Hassan tests a motorbike in Eldoret town yesterday.

The Uasin Gishu government will give chiefs Sh30,000 monthly allowance and motorbikes to help them discharge their duties effectively.

They will also get airtime, fuel and stationery.

County commissioner Abdi Hassan launched the initiative yesterday.

He distributed 57 motorbikes and warned chiefs against misusing them.

“The motorbikes are not for personal errands and anyone found misusing them and the cash will face the law,” Hassan said at his office in Eldoret town.

He said the motorbikes will help chiefs crack down on illicit brews and drugs.

“Chiefs now have no excuse if they don’t perform. They have been complaining about mobility and office equipment but have now been facilitated fully,” Hassan said.

He said chiefs are required to hold barazas to sensitise residents about government programmes.
