A court in Siaya has convicted a man for threatening to kill his mother, contrary to the penal code.
Jack Ouma, from Central Alego location, was found guilty by principal magistrate Benjamin Limo and now awaits sentencing.
He was charged that at around 8:30 pm on March 1, he arrived at his home armed with a panga and chased his mother. Ouma boasted that he would kill her without consequence.
The court heard that the victim was forced to flee and seek safety at the home of a neighbour, Christine Adhiambo.
Pamela Adipo, a witness, testified that she was at the complainant’s home when the accused entered holding a panga and declared, “I will kill you today”.
Adipo said when she questioned Ouma about his actions, he responded by kicking his mother. This prompted Adipo to quickly leave the scene.
The complainant later went to Adipo’s home to ask for help.
The witness recounted that the following morning, she saw the accused again chasing his mother with a panga, which led the older woman to take refuge at Adhiambo’s home.
The magistrate found the testimony of the prosecution witnesses to be credible, consistent and reliable.
“I have also evaluated the defence placed before court. The defence fails short of merit and substance and accordingly dismissed,” ruled the principal magistrate, adding that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Ouma was remanded at Siaya GK Prison pending sentencing.
