Nairobi is set to host its first-ever drone light show on May 28, 2025

This coming Wednesday, May 28, Nairobi’s night sky will be transformed into a canvas of light, colour, and innovation.

The city will host its first-ever drone light show during the grand unveiling of The Purple Tower, a groundbreaking green tech skyscraper along Mombasa Road.

The show, billed as a dazzling fusion of art and technology, will feature hundreds of LED-equipped drones soaring in synchronised formations.

These high-tech marvels will animate the skies with glowing patterns and vibrant shapes, telling a story of innovation, sustainability, and modern architectural brilliance.

“This will be a show like no other,” organisers promised, likening it to the kind of aerial spectacles seen in cities like Dubai and Shanghai.

The drone display, choreographed to a custom soundtrack, is set to mark a historic moment not just for Nairobi, but for the entire region.

At the heart of the celebration is The Purple Tower—a bold new symbol of sustainable urban development.

Branded under the slogan “Purple is the New Green,” the building is already drawing attention for its futuristic design and impressive eco-credentials.

Developers say the tower is engineered to reduce energy consumption by 27 per cent, cut water usage by 41 per cent, and lower embodied material energy by 33 per cent, setting a new benchmark for green architecture in East Africa.

“This building isn’t just purple—it’s purpose-built,” said one of the lead architects. “We wanted to create more than a landmark. We wanted to create a living, breathing example of what sustainable African urbanism can look like.”

The dual celebration—the launch of Nairobi’s most sustainable skyscraper and Kenya’s inaugural drone show—represents a bold step forward for a city increasingly positioning itself as a hub for technological and environmental innovation.

City residents are being urged to come out and witness the moment.

“What usually dazzles the skies of Dubai is coming straight to your doorstep,” organisers said. “Nairobi, it’s your time to shine.”

The event is free and open to the public, with best viewing points expected around South B, Belle Vue, and parts of the Nairobi Expressway.
