Azimio la Umoja Coalition at the Nairobi County Assembly has embarked on disciplinary action against Jubilee MCAs associating themselves with the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Kariobangi South Uhuru MCA Robert Mbatia is the first victim.

“This is with reference to several complaints about your alleged misconduct reported to the Azimio la Umoja leadership. Our coalition believes in observing high ethical values in all respect and expects the same from all its members,” reads a letter dated March 1, 2023.

The letter by Majority Whip Moses Ogeto was addressed to Mbatia.

According to Ogeto, Mbatia’s unethical dalliance and open affection towards Azimio’s rival coalition (Kenya Kwanza) has become a concern to other members.

“Your affection towards Kenya Kwanza as reported by your colleagues and other several loyal members of the Azimio One Kenya coalition is treated as serious misconduct from your side,” Ogeto said.

As a result, the Jubilee MCA has been given seven days to explain his conduct.

“You are hereby asked to submit a written explanation of your conduct and provide us with a valid cause why disciplinary action should now be taken against you. It should reach the office of the Majority Whip within seven days,” read the letter.

Mbatia was among the Jubilee MCAs who met with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua last month as part of his campaign to woo leaders from the Jubilee party to the government gathering momentum.

The six MCAs include five elected males and one nominated woman.

The MCAs are Anthony Kimemia (Harambee ), Cyrus Mugo (Ngando), Wanjiru Kariuki (Nominated), Robert Mbatia (Kariobangi South),Patrick Karani (Utawala) and Fiu Fiu (Karura).

Mbatia said the migration of Jubilee Party-allied MPs from Azimio la Umoja is now inexorable.

He said that they were tired of being taken for granted.

"We can't keep pretending to be at ease while our partners take advantage of us in plain daylight. None of the pre-election agreements have been followed through on, "Mbatia said.

Mbatia claimed that ODM had taken over all of the critical and significant seats at the county assembly that had previously been reserved for the Jubilee Party.

"We've had enough, and our exit is unstoppable. A lot will happen in the following days. We can't keep working with people who believe they are entitled to every seat in the county assembly," he said.
