Police in Machakos County are investigating the killing of a 33-year-old watchman whose body was discovered in Mlolongo Township, Athi River sub-county, on Sunday morning.

The victim, identified as Samuel Mwangi Mwendia, was found lying on the ground in the Ting Ting area with stab wounds to his left rib cage and right waist.

According to police, the body was first spotted at around 5.30am by a trader from the nearby Kasina area, who had gone to open his business premises. He reported the matter at Mlolongo Police Station at 7.05am.

A police officer familiar with the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the circumstances suggested the watchman may have been killed elsewhere and his body later dumped at the scene.

Investigators noted there were no signs of struggle or blood at the location.

“The body has been identified as that of Samuel Mwangi Mwendia, aged about 33 years and a watchman in the Syokimau area,” the officer said.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Scene of Crime personnel processed the scene before moving the body to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. No murder weapon was recovered, and no arrests had been made by press time.

Investigations into the killing are ongoing.
