Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, on Monday, September 8, announced the suspension of 36 county staff members implicated in corruption allegations.

Speaking during a press briefing, the governor said the move was part of ongoing efforts to promote integrity and safeguard public resources.

“This decisive action demonstrates our solid commitment to promoting integrity and protecting the interests of the people of Machakos,” she said.

Wavinya also said the list of the suspended officials will be forwarded to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further action.

Those affected include county officers from the departments of trade, administration, liquor, cashier services, solid waste, billing, revenue, and Information Communication and Technology (ICT).

Governor Ndeti emphasised that integrity and stewardship were the foundation of public service, noting that accountability and fairness were critical in ensuring trust between government and citizens.

She further urged members of the Machakos County Public Service to uphold ethical standards in their workplaces, reject corruption, and embrace transparency in the delivery of services.

"There is no room for corruption in Machakos. The suspended county staff are required to hand over to the respective chief officer and cease transacting any business on behalf of the county," she added.

The governor stated that the suspended county staff are suspected of colluding with members of the public to irregularly issue permits, an action she said undermines county operations.

She noted that the officers will remain on suspension as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) carry out investigations. Further disciplinary or legal measures will be taken based on the outcome of the probe.

In announcing the suspension of the 36 officers, the governor reiterated her administration’s commitment to integrity and transparency, stressing that corruption would not be tolerated in Machakos County.
