The Kitui County Assembly has issued an alert warning the public and job seekers of ongoing fraud schemes in which individuals impersonate assembly officials to solicit money under the pretext of offering county jobs.
In a public notice, acting clerk and secretary to the Assembly Service Board Lucy Waema said fraudsters are using various mobile numbers to contact potential victims.
“It has come to the attention of the Kitui County Assembly Service Board that unscrupulous persons are calling the public soliciting money through different mobile numbers,” Waema stated in the notice published on the assembly’s website on Saturday.
She urged the public to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to these schemes, noting that the county assembly will not be responsible for any money lost to such fraudsters.
“Any person dealing with such unscrupulous individuals does so at their own risk. The Kitui County Assembly Service Board shall in no way be responsible for the consequences thereof,” the notice read.
Waema emphasized that the assembly’s service board does not charge fees for shortlisting, interviews, or appointments.
“All ongoing recruitment by the Kitui County Assembly Service Board is advertised only through our official website or widely published recruitment notifications in print media,” she said.
The notice further advised the public and job seekers to report any suspicious calls requesting money to the relevant authorities for investigation.
“In order to verify the authenticity of any Kitui County Assembly recruitment events, candidates are advised to consult the official website or contact the assembly directly,” the notice added.
In May, the Kitui County Assembly Service Board advertised 12 vacant positions, including deputy clerk, principal legal counsel, senior Hansard editor, and senior accountant, among others. The recruitment process is still ongoing.
