Said “Saido” Abdalla with President William Ruto at
VOK on September 17, 2025/ BRIAN OTIENONyali MP Mohammed
Ali gave President William Ruto’s visit to the Affordable Housing project at
VoK in his constituency a wide berth on Wednesday.
Ali, however, expressed appreciation for the project, which he
said he pushed for, for a long time.
The site of the Affordable
Housing project was a dumpsite which saw Ali and the county administration,
especially under Governor Hassan Joho’s government, clash several times.
However, the visit
has also re-awakened a long-standing rivalry between the MP and his fierce
opponent Said “Saido” Abdalla.
Saido, who attended
the event, was given an opportunity to speak, which he grabbed and hit out at Ali in the process.
Saido said he will represent the residents if the
MP "goes missing."
“Kama Mbunge hayuko, sisi tuko! (If the MP is not
here, we are here!)” Saido said.
He heaped praise on President Ruto saying there is
tangible development on the ground.
He said there are affordable housing units now
seen and there are more road projects which Kenyans are enjoying.
“God bless our President William Samoei Ruto and bless Kenya,” he said, calling for Ruto’;s re-election in 2027.
Although there were
many other politicians who have expressed interest in the Nyali MP seat, it is
only Saido who was given an opportunity to speak.
“Today, I had the honor of joining H.E.
President William Samoei Ruto during the inspection of the ongoing construction
of 1,932 units under the Nyali Constituency Affordable Housing Project,” he
posted on his social media accounts later that day.
“This transformative initiative is set to provide
decent, modern and affordable homes for our people while creating employment
opportunities and uplifting livelihoods in our community.
“Together, we are building a future where every
family can live with dignity and pride,” he said.
However, Ali could
not resist a jibe at CS Hassan Joho, saying it is under his leadership that the
VoK site was a dumping ground for garbage.
Joho was the governor
when VoK was an appalling, smelly dumpsite.
“The public’s
memory is longer than any politician’s term,” Ali said.
He noted that the
Nyali people will not forget that they were left on their own when no one
wanted to clear the garbage, which he said was deliberate.
“The people
of Nyali remember what VOK looked like, smelled like and what a disgusting and
humiliating site it was under Joho’s leadership,” he said on his social media
accounts.
“There’s absolutely nothing that can sanitize
those who left VOK to rot, no matter the cloak they wear today,” he said,
referring to Joho’s new position as a CS.
Ali wrote: “As much as I am pleased to witness
President William Ruto’s official visit of the affordable housing project and
construction of a market in VOK, Nyali constituency today following my request
to have these critical projects in Nyali, I am equally appalled by those who
are riding on this wave when they are in fact the orchestrators of the menace
and garbage that suffocated residents at VOK for years.”
However, Saido, who is Joho’s cousin, said bitter
leaders will always cry wolf when they want to play victim.
Saido noted that the Nyali people have for years
suffered under a leadership that only gave cosmetic development projects.
“But patience and perseverance will eventually win for the Nyali people in 2027. When we get the right people in, all their tears will be wiped. Right now we are only wiping tears in our small way because we do not have any kitty like others do,” Saido said..
Instant Analysis:
Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has for a long been at war with the Joho family, ever since he was first elected MP on an independent ticket. He believes the Joho’s were pushing for own cousin, Saido, for the MP seat which was why he was pushed out of ODM.
