Radio personality and content creator Jaymo Ule Msee launched his Mafisi Party of Kenya (MPK) in 2016 but wasn't able to register it as a political party.
Speaking to Word Is, he said he tried to register it three times without success.
"The reason it never succeeded is because some people would not allow that to happen. But it was supposed to be a party for the young people."
He is now the spokesperson and head of media for the Roots party.
"What I studied in school is political science and economics, and that is my degree from the University of Nairobi. I have participated in many campaigns since I was in campus."
He assured fans he won't stop entertaining them through content creation despite the new appointment.
"What we are trying to do in this country is to be in a phase where creatives can speak their mind. But you see right now many creatives can't speak because they are constrained by the brands that they've gotten endorsements from."
He called on creatives to be actively interested in the future of the country, saying their silence would mean few opportunities for them in future.
Jaymo says some creatives find themselves tied and cannot speak about the future of this country for fear of losing their endorsements.
So, will he vie for a political seat in future?
"That is not necessarily how politics work. When that time comes, we will know, let's focus on the main job right now."
He says his decision didn't come as a shocker to his family and insists they are all supportive of his appointment and the decisions he makes.
"My family is good, they are always aware that I will always be surprising them with some of the moves I'll be making. It is something of course they expected, so wako sawa and they are supporting me in this journey."
On Prof Wajackoyah's plans surrounding legalising and selling of marijuana, Jaymo acknowledged that there is the drug abuse problem that needs to be addressed.
"We are talking of its industrial farming and medicinal value. We are happy to grow and export and sort out a few problems that the country has."
He said Kenya has the necessary body mandated by the government, including some NGOs that are actively involved in solving the issue.
