A court has ordered the unconditional release of former journalist Michael Wairimu, popularly known as Njoroge Mahindi, in the illegal firearm possession case.
Principal magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot on Thursday held that a police report had proven that the former Kameme FM reporter does not hold a gun as was claimed.
The trial magistrate, who had allowed investigating officer Inspector Edward Kiplagat to hold Wairimu for three days, said that he found no evidence to link him with the allegations.
The court ordered the matter closed and Njoroge was discharged unconditionally.
The newsman was accused of extorting millions of shillings from Kenyans, possessing an unlicensed gun, and of impersonating a NIS officer.
