Uasin Gishu Woman Rep Gladys Boss Shollei has been elected as the deputy speaker of the National Assembly.
The county MP was running against Dadaab MP Farah Maalim and three others.
Shollei won Maalim conceded defeat after the first round of voting. The election was to proceed to the second round of voting.
Shollei had polled 198 votes in while Maalim got 139 votes.
To win the race in the first round, the two needed at least two-thirds of the total number of MPs in the Assembly.
This translates to 233 MPs. In the second round of voting, the winner was to be declared by a simple majority.
The Uasin Gishu woman rep had been fronted by the Kenya Kwanza Alliance for the seat.
Azimio backed Maalim, who conceded defeat after the vote count.
"I congratulate my worthy opponent, Gladys Shollei. I choose to do what is noble and good, I concede defeat, and urge the Speaker to declare Shollei the duly elected Deputy Speaker," he said.
On Wednesday, Wetangula expressed confidence in that Shollei would make a good deputy.
"This distinguished lady, Gladys Boss Shollei, a lawyer distinguished in her own right, is going to be my able deputy speaker God willing," he said.
