Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia hailed his players’ composure after a dramatic 1-0 Sportpesa League victory over Gor Mahia at Moi Stadium, Kasarani, on Sunday.
“Newton kept his nerve when it mattered most,” said Akhulia, after midfielder Newton Ochieng scored an 88th-minute penalty to seal the upset.
“This result isn’t just three points—it’s a statement. Beating Gor Mahia builds belief that Bidco can compete at the top.”
Akhulia said the penalty, awarded for a foul inside the box, was the result of sustained pressure.
“We worked on set-pieces all week. It may look like luck, but it was earned through discipline,” he added.

Gor coach Charles Akonnor admitted his side was wasteful.
“We controlled the game but couldn’t score,” he said. “The penalty call was unfortunate, but we can’t hide behind it. We must be sharper in the final third.”
Akonnor criticised the pre-match chaos.
“It was distracting for players and staff. Incidents like that damage the image of the game,” he said.
In Kisii, Shabana FC stormed to the top of the table with a 4-2 win over APS Bomet at Gusii Stadium.
Brian Michira scored twice early to give Shabana a commanding lead. His first came in the third minute, followed by a penalty conversion after Dalphine Omuri was fouled. Omuri added a third before debutant Derrick Otieno completed the haul in the second half.
APS Bomet, playing their first-ever top-flight match, fought back with goals from Bob Cetric and Hansel Ochieng.
Shabana coach Peter Okidi praised Michira’s clinical finishing. “Brian gave us control from the start. We can’t afford to switch off, even with a big lead,” he said.
Despite the loss, APS Bomet coach Michael Nam remained positive. “The early goals unsettled us, but I’m proud of the recovery. We’ll learn from this,” he said.
In Murang’a, Ulinzi Stars snatched a 1-0 win over Murang’a Seal at St. Sebastian Park. Paul Okoth scored in stoppage time to give the visitors a dramatic victory.
