Kisii School optimistic of lifting third consecutive 7's title

Kisii School coach Edwin Morara is optimistic of retaining the Kisii County rugby  Sevens title.

Despite having a bulk of their top players in the 15s squad, Morara said: “We have a young, promising and upcoming team. We are ready to reign again at the county level.”

The 15s players, who helped the school finish second at the nationals in Term One, will not feature in the 7s since they have already qualified for the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games to be held in Kakamega in August.

“We want to continue with our dominance at both the county and regional levels. I trust the boys to deliver the county title. That is our immediate target,” remarked Morara.

The  Kisii County Championships will be held at Nyachogochogo Secondary School from June 14 to 20, according to the Kisii County Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary, Geoffrey Nyantika.

He said football will be held at Nyachogochogo Secondary and Nyamagwa Boys, while basketball 3x3  and racket games will be held at Nyamache Boys. 

"The boys and girls rugby 7s competition will be staged at Nyamache playground," Nyantika added.

According to the draws, Kisii are in Pool ‘A’ alongside Rioma Secondary and Bong’onta, while former powerhouses Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho headlines Pool B,  which also features Nyanchwa Boys, and Sameta Boys. 

Pool C has Gesero, former champions Nyabigena, and Tendere, while Pool D will feature Kerongorori, Ayora Secondary, and Nyamache Boys.

Kenya’s representatives at the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Games, Nyagichenche, have been placed in Pool ‘A’ together with Ayora and Bobaracho in the girls' category.  

St Anne’s Nyangoge, Nyagonyi, and representatives will from Kitutu Central will face off in Pool B, while in Pool C, Nyamagwa Girls, Nyabisase, and Mesabakwa will battle it out. Hema Chitago, Nyabigena, and Kereri Girls will form Pool ‘D’.
