Kisumu Day boys’ soccer team has dared rivals ahead of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Kisumu County Term Two games set for July 9-13 in Kisii.

Kisumu Day team manager Booker Odhiambo said they are ready to reclaim their title which they lost to Agoro Sare last year.

Speaking after an appeal lodged by Kisumu County’s losing finalists Agai was dismissed on Wednesday afternoon, Odhiambo welcomed the decision by the jury.

A jury sitting in Kisumu County dismissed Agai’s case against Kisumu Day. In their appeal, Agai claimed that Kisumu Day fielded ineligible players during the final which they lost 2-0.

Odhiambo has been at the forefront of fighting the fielding of ineligible players in school games.

“I can’t preach water and drink wine. The players in question are genuine students at Kisumu Day,” said Odhiambo.

KSSSA Kisumu County secretary George Osura said the students in question were transferred from Kasagam to Kisumu Day officially and met the 90-day rule.

“This was based on the Ministry of Education transfer form presented by Kisumu Day,” said Osura.

On the pooling which placed them in Pool ‘A’, he said: “This is the pool of death. However, I’m confident we shall sail through. We want to reclaim our title which we lost to Agoro Sare last year.  Kisumu has been pooled alongside Koderobara, Agoro Sare and Ong’icha in Pool ‘A’.

Odhiambo said he has a better team than last year’s squad which lost 7-6 to Agoro Sare in the final at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

“This team is composed and has what it takes to reclaim our glory,” noted Odhiambo. Pool ‘B’ will feature Sameta High, Ambira, Matutu PAG and Tonga.

The games will take place both at Kisii School and Cardinal Otunga, Mosocho grounds.
