National Super League leaders Mara Sugar’s assistant coach Godfrey Naibei has warned his charges not to be complacent as the promotion push hits the homestretch.

“We are not yet there. We have five critical games and we shall not underrate any team. However, we need to win at least three to be assured of a slot in next year’s FKF Premier League,” said Naibei.

Naibei added: “The remaining games will be like finals. We have games against Nairobi United and Mathare United who are also chasing promotion. We shall continue working hard in training and competition  so that we achieve our dream.”

Mara Sugar’s remaining games are against third-placed Nairobi United and relegation-threatened Silibwet at home.

The Cane Millers will travel to Nairobi for an encounter against promotion rivals Mathare United and Kibera Black Stars.

Naibei rued last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Gusii FC at Cardinal Otunga High School grounds.

" was a minor setback in our promotion quest. However, we were contended with one point because we were playing against a team that was struggling for survival,” Naibei added.

The Enoosaen-based side have a four-point advantage at the top of the log. They have 72 points while second-placed Mathare United have 68 points.

Naivas are third with 63 points and Nairobi United are fourth also with 63 points but with an inferior goal difference.

In the relegation battle, Kajiado FC sit 18th on the table with 26 points,  Gusii FC 19th with 24 points and Silibwet are last with 21 points.

However, Gusii FC assistant coach Calvince Ochieng is confident they will survive relegation.

“We have five games remaining and our target is to win all of them. These games will determine our future,” said Ochieng.

Gusii will battle Mully Children’s Family (MCF) on Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. MCF on Sunday shocked Luanda Villa 2-0 at Mumboha grounds in Vihiga County.
