Vihiga Queens stunned Bungoma counters 7-0 in the Kenya women’s Premier League match played at Mumboha Stadium in Luanda.

An excited Vihiga Queen coach Joseph Nyamunyamu said: “We executed our game plan flawlessly. Our players showed remarkable composure and we’re thrilled with the win.”

With the race still wide open, the team is now seeking to maintain their winning ways in their remaining matches. Vihiga Queens play Nakuru City and Wadadia Ladies in their next matches.

At Ulinzi complex, hosts Ulinzi Starlets beat Bunyore 1-0 and declared their intention to finish in the top three. Kenya Police Bullets still top the WPL standings with 43 points from 17 matches, having won 13 and drawn four.

Vihiga Queens are second with 40 points from 12 victories, four draws and a loss.

Ulinzi coach Joseph Mwanza acknowledged their game plan while emphasising the importance of winning the remaining matches.

“We can't afford to underestimate Kibera and Bungoma in our subsequent matches. Our goal now is to secure a top-three finish, which would serve as great motivation for the players,” Mwanza stated.

His Bunyore counterpart Timothy Ondeko blamed his defensive blunders for the loss but was quick to add that they had learned their lessons.

Despite facing squad limitations due to injuries, Ondeko remains optimistic about his team’s performance.

Ondeko was without centre-back Chemutai Koigi, striker Agnes Wobi and defenders Shalene Musungu and Pauline Musungu due to injuries.

“We knew it was not going to be easy, especially with several key players sidelined. Our defensive lapses, particularly against long balls, proved costly,” Ondeko observed.

With two matches remaining in the season, he said their focus will be to refine the defence.

They face Kibera next in an away match at Dandora Stadium before taking on Police Bullets in a home match at Muboha Stadium.

Zetech Sparks were held to a 2-2 draw by Kibera on Saturday after the latter won 2-1 a week ago in the FKF Cup at Dandora Stadium, which Kibera won 2-1.
