Kisumu's Obunga FC, Nyakach Queens bag Safaricom Chapa Dimba titles

The best goalkeeper, top scorer, and Most Valuable Player received Sh50,000 each.

In Summary

•Winners in the boys’ and girls’ categories received Sh1 million while runners-up went home with Sh500,000.

 Nyakach Girls popularly known as Plateau Queens and  Obunga are the new champions of the fourth edition of the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament, which concluded on Sunday in Kisumu.

Obunga FC overcame PASC Langa 4-2 on post-match penalties after the teams drew 1-1 at full time in the boys’ final while Nyakach Girls outclassed Central Region’s Barcelona Ladies 4-0.

George Ogutu gave the hosts the lead in the sixth minute to send the full-capacity stadium into jubilation.

However, Alex Kamadi silenced the home crowd in the 76th with a well-taken equaliser.  During the dramatic penalty shootout, Obunga goalkeeper William Odek saved two penalties.

Obunga sailed to the finals after a hard-fought 2-0 win over Bandari Youth from the Coast Region. Collins Otieno and Armstrong Omondi were on target for the mighty Obunga.

 PASC Langa stormed into the finals after drubbing Ebwali from the Western region 4-0. Simon Maina, Brian Shatera, Boniface Ouko and Benson Aduma scored for PASC Langa.

Nyakach Girls drubbed Barcelona Ladies 4-0 to lift the girls’ title. Player of the game Saum Mwasungo grabbed a brace with Emily Morang’a and Maureen Atieno scoring a goal apiece.

Nyakach coach Chrispin Odindo said: “When the tournament started, our target was to reclaim our title. I’m happy  we have won the tournament after a convincing win against Barcelona Ladies.”

On her side, Mwasungo a Form Four student said: “It was a tough match but we followed instructions from the technical bench. We are happy with the Sh1 million cash prize. This will go a long way in helping us, the school and our parents.”

Nyakach Girls walloped Western’s Brenda Girls 5-1 to qualify for the final while Barcelona Ladies overcame Wiyeta Girls 2-1.

Safaricom's chief executive officer, Peter Ndegwa, was the chief guest during the finals. Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and FKF President Nick Mwendwa graced the occasion.

Winners in the boys’ and girls’ categories received Sh1 million while runners-up went home with Sh500, 000.

The losing semi-finalists Bandari Youth, Ebwali Boys, Wiyeta Girls and Brenda Girls received Sh250,000.

The best goalkeeper, top scorer, and Most Valuable Player received Sh50,000 each.

Each player, winner, and runner-up was also awarded Neon Smartphones, the first locally assembled 4G smartphone in Kenya.
