Okoth seeks to steer Migori Youth to the Kenya Premier League

The former Kenyan international striker severed ties with Shabana in November after a string of poor results.

Newly appointed Migori Youth coach Sammy Okoth is relishing the challenge of leading Migori Youth to the FKF Premier League.

The experienced tactician was unveiled on Tuesday as the new coach of the FKF National Super League side by patron Mark Nyamita.

Last season, Okoth led Shabana to the FKF Premier League after a 17-year hiatus and is keen to help Migori Youth after several failed trials.

“I have not been given a target but I have a track record. I know there are a lot of expectations and I want to team to perform well,” said Okoth.

He added: “I came in a bit late but I’m confident I will help this team meet their targets. I’m happy to be back on the touchline after a few months.”

The former Kenyan international striker severed ties with Shabana in November after a string of poor results.

The Bansi Wholesalers-sponsored side sits 5th on the log with 33 points— 10 behind log leaders Naivas FC and Mathare United who are both on 43 points. They have played 20 games, won nine, lost five, and drawn six.

His first match in charge of the second-tier side will be against log leaders Naivas at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday at noon.

“I will train the team for the first time on Wednesday morning. I’m sure the technical team that I joined has done a good job so we are looking forward to the game against Naivas,” added the tactician.

Assistant coaches Kevin Oluoch and Sammy Owano have been training the team in the absence of a head coach.

Okoth takes over from Peter Okidi who left the club for Division One, Zone 'B' League side, Nakuru Bucks.

The experienced Okoth has previously guided Vihiga Bullets and Shabana to the FKF Premier League.
