Nairobi City Stars winger Pius Omachi is on the verge of making a full return to the team after months on the sidelines.

Omachi has been undergoing rehab since March after an injury rendered his 2022-23 FKF Premier League season over.

Team physiotherapist, Brian Otieno, said Omachi is now good to go.

“All he now needs is match fitness. Otherwise, he has a clean bill of health. It’s been a journey since his injury back in March. Progressively, he has come through to a point where he will soon start contesting for a place in the team for competitive games,” said Otieno.

Head coach Nicholas Muyoti added: “We have assessed him and he is now on the verge of returning to the squad. He has taken part in our training sessions. We have also tested him in friendly games. He recently played 45 minutes which shows he’s getting there. It’s now just a matter of time."

Omachi hopes to feature in Kenyan Premier League matches in this calendar year.

It’s been a journey but, finally, I am back to full training. I have been topping up on the minutes from one friendly game to the other. The coach told me that I am just two matches from a return to KPL action," he said.

"It is my desire to get there as soon as possible. I hope that will be before year’s end."

Omachi made his Kenyan Premier League debut against Gor Mahia on February 4 at Moi Stadium, Kasarani— coming on as a second-half substitute. It is his only appearance so far.
