Nairobi City Stars coach Nicholas Muyoti has hailed defender Timothy Muganda after captaining the team to a 3-2 win against AFC Leopards over the weekend.

Muganda was handed the captain’s armband upon his return to the starting 11 for the first time in seven weeks.

Muyoti said they wanted a player with the presence required at the back, a role that fitted the very vocal Muganda.

We needed command at the back and I thought giving him the armband would inspire him. We hope that it motivated him in that game and for the games to come,” said Muyoti.

Muganda said he was not under pressure against Ingwe.

“Wearing the armband against AFC Leopards came with absolutely no pressure. I was easy with it. Remember I was the regular captain at Soy United. I got used to the responsibilities that come with captaincy,” said the defender.

Muganda is also excited after helping the team to the win against Ingwe, which ended a two-game losing streak.

“It was a very important win considering we had had a bad patch recently. We had a good game approach that worked for us and delivered the win though we had to endure a nervy ending. The win gives us confidence and we can now go to the next set of games on a high,” he added.

Muganda's previous start was in their clash against Gor Mahia on September 17 at Moi Stadium, Kasarani on matchday three. He played against Murang'a Seal, off the bench,  on November 1. He so far has 15 KPL appearances.
