The first Africa Climate Change Summit has started in Nairobi and is expected to run through to Friday, September 8, 2023.
The event is hosted by President William Ruto, who is also expected to officially open it for business, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
The day will officially begin at 9 am and the President is expected to engage in a series of activities, including holding bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the climate summit.
Some of these leaders will include heads of state, vice presidents, leaders of international organisations and other delegations.
Some of those lined up for bilateral meetings with Ruto are Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, vice presidents Tiemoko Meyliet Kone (Cote D'Ivoire) and Bornito de Sousa (Angola).
He will also meet the UN secretary general Antonio Guterres, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Commonwealth secretary general Patricia Scotland and Senior Managing Director of the World Bank, Axel van Trotsenburg.
Ruto is also scheduled to meet US Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry, Global Green Growth Initiative chairperson Ban Ki Moon, AU Commission chair Moussa Faki and International Renewable Energy Agency director general Francesco La Camera.
The bilateral meetings are scheduled to run from around 11 am to 7.30 pm on Monday.
