Champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) teams host university opponents from Nairobi at their Makande Welfare Hall in Mombasa.

The men’s side open the weekend against the University of Nairobi Terrorists and entertain Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Wolfpacks a day later.

The women’s side, still unbeaten from 10 matches, meet UoN Dynamites and ANU Panthers.

KPA coach Anthony Ojukwu said they have prepared well. They started their camp on Monday with all the players on board and hope to keep their good run going.   

UoN coach Eugene Genga is concerned about his boys’ losing streak but insists that, win or lose, the trip will help assess their growth. They target improvement.

“Win or lose this trip is a test of our growth. It’s a yardstick to measure the impact of our changes,” said Genga.

About the women’s team: “They have a Herculean task against the defending champions and the Africa number two team.”

Leaders Nairobi City Thunder face Absa. Brad Ibs boys are the only unbeaten men’s team and are expected to keep their good run. 

Former champions Ulinzi Warriors have a date with Absa on Sunday. Coach Bernard Mufutu has prepared well, especially in defence and attack.

“The team is in high spirits and I thank God everybody is healthy. I expect the boys to come with the right mindset,” said Mufutu.

Zetech University Sparks, fresh from claiming the national university's women’s championships at Egerton University last weekend, play the United States International University Flames.

“We won the university title, rested on and resumed training on Thursday,” said coach Morris Obilo.

Bottom-placed Kenyatta University tackle Umoja in what will be a close call. KU coach Caleb Olebo said they are well prepared and are not taking any chances.

Kevin Sunguti’s Umoja are struggling for grip but can give the USIU Tigers a run for their money in their second game of the weekend.
