KU upset University of Nairobi Terrorists on Sunday for their second win of the season.
The other win for the bottom-placed KU was against Eldonets at Nyayo Stadium. They now have 15 points from 13 ties.
They seek to make their second-leg fixtures count in their quest to remain in the top tier.
The Thika Road-based campus lads had lost their last two games by narrow margins — 70-60 to Eldonets and 64-62 to USIU — an indication that they are on the right path.
“Our defence did it for us. We cut off their guards completely, which meant they had to use their big men to handle the ball,” said Gati.
“Trevor (Opiyo) was on fire, sinking five three-pointers and his efforts were key to the win. The team narrowly lost the last two games and things look good.”
On-form Trevor Opiyo was good for 34 points in a morale-boosting 74-51 victory at Nyayo.
KU were superb in the last half with a 44-23 surge after leading 30-26 at the break. They had 24-12 and 20-11 cushions in the last two quarters.
