Multi-Media University (MMU) and Don Bosco have been promoted to the Kenya National Basketball League Division Two.
The two Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) teams booked their tickets to the national league after clinching the top two spots in the national inter-provincial championships held in Asumbi, Homa Bay County on Sunday.
The two teams also battled it out in the NBA Play-off finals last November with the Rongai-based students claiming their first crown after 31 weeks of non-stop actions. MMU lost only two games in the regular season and remained unbeaten in the playoffs.
“We are elated to have achieved our goal for promotion. Over the last three years, we have been rebuilding and we have brought young players who are hungry for more and looking to play basketball at higher levels,” said coach Don Obiga.
“As a team, we are happy that this is happening for us and we look forward to growing as a team and attracting more talent, as we fulfill the basketball dreams of our young players.”
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) competitions secretary, Joseph Amoko, said the two Nairobi teams will be joined by Cabals Women. The Nakuru side will join the Division One.
A total of five teams— MMU, Don Bosco and Daystar University, all from Nairobi and Cabals as well as the home side Asumbi Pino took part in the two-day tournament.
