Kenya’s celebrated javelin thrower Julius Yego suffered adversity at the Absa Kip Keino Classic and candidly admitted to a mission impossible after his first attempt.

An injury during the first round compelled the YouTube Man to withdraw from the competition, saying: “I just felt it during my first attempt in the middle of the runway and I knew it was impossible to have a good throw today.”

The You Tube athlete nevertheless maintained that he was feeling ready throughout the week on top of having very good training sessions with no issue.

“I felt good going into the competition and with home support I was hoping to make some good throws. Injury is part of sport though I am gutted,” said Yego.

He nevertheless assured javelin fans across the country that he will keep on going as he continues to work on his rehabilitation promising to be back as soon as possible.

Kenyan Alex Kiprotich demonstrated resilience and determination as he continued to compete despite the stiff competition.

With a throw of 74.63 meters, he showcased his potential and left a lasting impression on the field.

Gatis Cakks of Latvia emerged victorious once again by retaining his men’s javelin throw title at the fifth edition of the World Athletics Continental Tour 2024 currently ongoing at Nyayo Stadium.

With a spectacular throw of 81.74 m, the Latvian set the bar high for his competitors and maintained his lead to clinch the top spot followed closely by Rohler Thomas of Germany with 80.62m.

In third place was Timothy Herman of Belgium, whose throw of 79.94m earned him a spot at the podium.

“It's one of the best season openers for me, the competition was tough but friendly,” he voiced, expressing his happiness to be in Kenya since it was his first time in Africa.
