Organizers of the Eldoret City Marathon have for the second time postponed the race to pave the way for more preparations and get more sponsors on board.

The annual event was earlier set to take place on Sunday but has been pushed to October 1.  Speaking in Eldoret on Tuesday, race director,  Moses Tanui, apologised to athletes who had prepared for the race.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank Kenyans for their patience and understanding. Unfortunately, we have to postpone the event for the second time. This is due to circumstances beyond our control,” he noted.

“I want to apologise to everyone for the inconvenience and but Eldoret City Marathon is a young race that needs support from all of us,” said the two-time Boson Marathon champion.

He, however, said registration will still begin next week and urged the sponsors to give them support as they seek to nurture the next generation.

“We want to develop this sport and take it to another level. That is why we must all support this event and let it outlive us. Boston Marathon is 127 years and that should be our benchmark,” said Tanui.

Apart from running, the organisers are involved in tree planting with the theme of the Action Plan on Climate Change.
