Kinyamal, Rotich star attractions at South Rift AK meet

The South Rift region competition will bring together six counties of Kericho, Bomet, Laikipia, Kajiado, Nakuru and hosts Narok.

Two-time Commonwealth Games 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal and 800m Olympics silver medalist Ferguson Rotich will be the centre of attraction as Narok county host Athletics Kenya South Rift track and field championships at William ole Ntimama Stadium on Saturday.

The South Rift region competition will bring together six counties of Kericho, Bomet, Laikipia, Kajiado, Nakuru and hosts Narok.

The duo, who are fresh from the Diamond League action, will renew their rivalry in the two-lap race.

Narok AK chairman Stephen ole Marai said they are set for the event.

“We are going well with the preparations. We have finished marking the field,” he said.  

Ole Marai, who is also Kenya Masters Athletics chairman, said that they are expecting to select a very strong team for the national trials.

“We are expecting stiff competition with slots to the national trials at stake,” he said.

He called on the Narok residents and the neighbouring counties to turn up in large numbers to cheer up their favourite athletes and use the chance to meet the international runners who will compete in the games.
