Kipleting, Jepchirchir rule Nandi County track and field championships

Jackson Kipleting and Faith Jepchirchir were the winners of Friday’s 10,000m men and women races respectively at the Nandi County Athletics Kenya track and field event held at the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex.

Kipleting timed 29:24 for the title ahead of Evans Kiplagat (29:25) and veteran Emmanuel Bor completing the podium when he timed 29:32.

With the focus being the World Athletics championships in August, Budapest, Hungary, Kipleting said the victory has handed him an advantage ahead of Central Rift championship set for next weekend in Eldoret.

“This is my first victory and I want to try my best, shine at the regional championships and the national trials ahead of Budapest,” said Kipleting.

In the women's race, Jepchirchir was victorious after she clocked 33:41.

Ruth Jebitok came second in 35:44 and Jackline Jepkoech completed the podium in 36:01

“It has been a long wait to victory and I have managed to run away with it in my homeland,” said Jepchirchir.

Mercy Kipyego and Dominic Kiptoo were 800m winners in women and men categories respectively.

Kipyego won the women’s title when she clocked 2:11.03 followed by Peninah Nakang (2:13.85) and Eunice jerubet in third at 2:14.04).

Kiptoo won the two lap race at 1:49.41 with Naaman Cheruiyot in second, 1:49.84 and Collins Kibiwott’s 1:50.50.

Onesmas Chepkemoi and Marion Jepchumba were victorious in the 400m race.

Chapkoech won the men title after crossing the finish line in 48.56 ahead of Nobert Kolombos (48:47) and Kelvin Kimutai (48.80).
