Omanyala in disbelief after breaking national record in Austria meet

Results are the latest in a fruitful season for the University of Nairobi student who has broken the national record four times on his way to the Tokyo Olympics and back to.

After setting a new national record of 9.86 in 100m, Ferdinand Omanyala is still in seventh heaven after his latest feat to add to his reputation as the country's brightest hope in the sprints. 

Omanyala  timed 9.96 at the semis of the men's 100m at the  International Josko Running Meeting in Andorf, Austria to qualify for the finals. He went one better in the finals when he clocked 9.86 to once again set a new record. 

"Somebody tell me am not dreaming. This will sink in years later; thank you to my management; thank you Andorf, Austria. On to the next; see you in a bit Helsinki. Cheers to second chances," Omanyala said. 

The results are the latest in a fruitful season for the University of Nairobi student who has broken the national record four times on his way to the Tokyo Olympics and back to the country. 

At the national trials for the Tokyo Olympics in June, he timed 10.01 to break the previous record by Mark Otieno.

At the semis of the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics, Omanyala went one better when he clocked 10.00 to set a new national record albeit he narrowly missed out on the finals. 

Afterwards, the sprints sensation expressed his desire to feature in more international competitions to boost his experience at the highest level ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. 

Part of his plan is to compete in the Diamond League series.
