A blockbuster showdown between record champions GSU and former title holders Kenya Prisons will headline the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League quarterfinals after the federation confirmed the knockout fixtures for June 26-28 in Mombasa.

The clash brings together two of Kenya’s most successful men’s volleyball sides in what many consider a final-worthy contest despite coming at the quarterfinal stage.

GSU endured a mixed regular season, finishing seventh with 25 points from 14 matches, while Prisons secured second place on 36 points to earn a difficult opening-round assignment.

Regular-season champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), who topped the standings with 39 points, will begin their title bid against sixth-placed Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU), who finished on 22 points.

Newly promoted Chema VC continue their remarkable fairytale season after finishing third with 32 points following promotion from Division Two last year.

They will face the Trailblazers in the quarterfinals as they seek to extend their impressive run. Another closely contested tie pits fourth-placed Equity Bank against Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). Equity amassed 31 points during the regular season, just two more than KDF’s 29, setting up one of the most evenly balanced matchups of the round.

In the women’s competition, defending champions Kenya Pipeline Company remain the team to beat following another dominant regular-season campaign. Pipeline heads into the playoffs buoyed by a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over KCB Women in their final league match, overturning a two-set deficit to win 15-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 17-15.

Pipeline will launch their title defence against Nairobi Prisons, while Kenya Prisons Women, who finished second in the standings, remain among the leading contenders for the crown.

KCB Women, who concluded the regular season third with 31 points, have been paired against Kenya Defence Forces, while last season’s runners-up, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), take on Postbank after ending the campaign fourth on 29 points.

All quarterfinal ties will be played on a best-of-three basis, with winners advancing to the semifinals. Teams eliminated at this stage will proceed to classification matches to determine their final league standings.

Makande Gymnasium will host the men’s matches, while Aga Khan Academy will stage the women’s fixtures. With every match carrying implications for both title ambitions and final rankings, the battle for national volleyball supremacy is set to intensify on the coast.
