Kenya darts ace Peter Wachiuri says hard work and a willingness to learn from every opponent continue to drive his success after winning the Sirua Darts Match Play 2 title in Nakuru over the weekend.

Popularly known as "The King", Wachiuri capped a dominant campaign by defeating James Kamama of Naivasha 8-2 in the final of the tournament, which attracted more than 200 players from across the country.

The tournament's quarter-final stage featured several experienced players who have been competing in the ongoing Africa Darts Series.

Corporal Pascal Wanjala from the Regional Commissioner's Office at Nakuru Prisons advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Joseph Gitahi, a former finalist in the Mombasa ADG Second Series.

Wachiuri booked his place in the final after a commanding 7-1 victory over Peter Wanjie in the semi-finals before comfortably dispatching Kamama to lift the title.

The victory adds to an impressive form for Wachiuri, who made history in 2025 by becoming the first African player to reach a weekly final at the MODUS Super Series in Portsmouth, England, where he eventually finished runner-up.

"I've been working hard, joining people during their practice sessions, and that has really helped me because when you meet players with different styles, you have to know how to deal with each one," said Wachiuri.

The Kenyan international attributed his continued growth to learning from experienced players both locally and abroad.

"In darts, you learn every day. So when you meet a great player, you have to learn something from him. Whenever I go internationally, I try my best to win, but if I don't, I try to grab two or three points that will help me qualify for another tournament," he added.

In the women's category, Millicent Wanjohi of Jacaranda Nakuru emerged champion after defeating Daisy Chepkoech in the final. Wanjohi had earlier eliminated Agnes Makumi in the quarter-finals.

The competition drew participants from various institutions and counties, including Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Power, National Police Service, Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Airports Authority, Kenya Museums and county teams from Nakuru, Kajiado, Narok, Kirinyaga, Meru, Nairobi, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo.

Several darts legends, including Robert Ngirigacha, John Munyui, Lucy Jemutai, Samuel Nyaga and Julius Ndungu, were among those who attended the event.

Attention now shifts to the East Africa Darts Federation Tanzania Open scheduled for June 24 in Moshi, although Wachiuri admitted his participation remains uncertain due to financial constraints.

"I'm not sure if I'll go to the Tanzania tournament because I'm not sure if I'll get the funds to travel there. Every competition, my aim is not always to win but rather to increase my experience," he said.
