Parliamentary staff during trials at Ulinzi Sports Complex/HANDOUT The stage is set for the inaugural annual Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Staff Sports Day to be held at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday.
Preparations have entered the final stretch ahead of the event that will be held annually.
It brings together members of staff from across departments for a shared experience of fitness, fun, and team spirit.
The Chairperson of the Bunge Sports Club Secretariat, Director Dishon Nyaga, assured team coordinators, liaison officers, and captains that everything is set for a memorable event.
The event will be officially flagged off by the Speaker of the National Assembly, who is also the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Service Commission, Moses Wetangula; Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge; Clerk of the Senate, Jeremiah Nyegenye, and the Director General, Clement Nyandiere.
Speaking to the staff drawn from both Houses of Parliament, Director Nyagah said that each of the four teams (Red, White, Black and Gold) will receive full kits ahead of the games, provided by partner-sponsors.
“To add colour and identity to the competition, the teams have been assigned unique names and symbols," Nyaga remarked.
Team White will take the field as the Tigers, Team Red as the Lions, Team Black as the Buffaloes, while Team Gold will embody the Cheetahs.
“These symbols represent strength, courage, and speed values that capture the true spirit of this event. We encourage all members of staff, even those not playing any sport, to come out and cheer on their colleagues," he noted.
"This is our time to bond and celebrate as one parliamentary family.”
He, however, cautioned staff against taking part in more than two sporting activities, saying this will ensure that everyone has an equal chance to participate and build closer synergies across the various departments.
Among sporting disciplines set for the event are: Athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, netball, tug of war, darts, pool, chess, scrabble, badminton, table tennis, and swimming.
These will be undertaken by both male and female staffers drawn from the entire Parliamentary Service Commission.
The annual sports day has grown into one of the most anticipated events in the parliamentary calendar, fostering teamwork, friendship, and healthy competition among employees.
“This event isn’t just about winning medals. It’s about connecting, laughing, and reminding ourselves that together, we are stronger,” concluded the Director.
