The National Assembly and the Senate staff have been urged to participate in the upcoming Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Sports Day.
The PSC Sports Day is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
The sports to feature include athletics, swimming, netball, volleyball, basketball, tug of war and indoor games; badminton, table tennis, chess, pool, scrabble and darts.

There will also be categories for staff living with disabilities. The Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, said staff members should participate.

“I appeal to all of us to turn up in large numbers and actively participate in the games. In the games, there will be no seniority — we are all members of the Parliamentary family,” said Njoroge. “If you cannot play for one reason or another, you can at least be part of the cheering squad."

Njoroge spoke when he presided over the official start of sports trials for a section of parliamentary staff at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
He hopes that the two-day competition will create stronger bonds among colleagues and give staff a chance to understand each other at a personal level.

“The games present an opportunity for us to learn from one another, to support each other, and to focus on the strengths and positives in all of us,” he remarked.

Parliamentary staff have been grouped into four colour-coded teams: Red, Black, White, and Gold.

Team Black comprises staff from the Office of the Clerk of the Senate, Security and Safety, Finance and Accounting, Engineering and Maintenance, and the Parliamentary Budget Office, as well as officers from Legislative and Procedural Services in both Houses.

Team White includes staff from the Office of the PSC Secretary, PSC Secretariat, CPST, Catering and Hospitality, Hansard and Audio Services, and Litigation and Compliance.

Team Gold consists of officers from the Speakers’ Offices, Committee Services, the Office of the Director General, Library and ICT, the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit, Internal Audit, and Liaison.

Present at the event were Deputy Clerks of the National Assembly, Serah Kioko and Jeremiah Ndombi; Johnson Okello, the Director of Legal Services in the Senate, and his National Assembly counterpart, Vane Akama; and Dishon Nyagah, the Director of Liaison and Auxiliary Services, who also chairs the Bunge Sports Club Secretariat.

In addition to staff from both Houses, officers from the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST) and the Parliamentary Joint Services will also feature.

Staff from the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sergeant-at-Arms, Legal Services, Human Capital and Administrative Services, and Parliamentary Research Services — collectively known as Team Red — took part in the trials.
