The Tujiamini Cheza Dimba tournament moves to the Nyanza region on Sunday as SportPesa continues its mission to nurture grassroots talent.
The Nyanza leg, to be hosted at the Raila Odinga Stadium, will feature six men’s and two women’s teams, all vying for a place in the national finals and a share of the prize purse.
The men’s Pool A comprises Awendo, Bondo United and Shabana Youth, while Pool B has Mawego, Bobaracho and Sindo Select.
The women’s category will see Masosa Starlets face Magina Starlets in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.
Winners in the men’s competition will take home Sh750,000, kit and a three-year mentorship programme, while the top women’s side will receive a Sh50,000 one-off prize.
Fans can also look forward to electrifying live performances from Musa Jakadalla and Odongo Swagg, two of Nyanza’s most celebrated artists, who will add local flavour and energy to the day’s festivities.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Deborah Maina, Public Relations and Advertising Executive at SportPesa, said the event embodies the core values of the Tujiamini initiative.
“The Nyanza leg represents the heart of what Tujiamini Cheza Dimba stands for – using sport to inspire, unite, and empower communities,” she said. “At SportPesa, we believe that every young player deserves a chance to be seen and supported. Through Tujiamini, we are not only developing talent but also investing in the dreams and livelihoods of Kenya’s youth.”
Shabana Youth FC coach Mogire Kepher expressed optimism ahead of the matches.
“We have been struggling financially as a young team, so this tournament means everything to us. We are looking to win because victory would ease our financial challenges and allow us to focus more on training and building our players. We’re excited for this chance, even as we dream of one day playing against our mother team, Shabana FC.”
The Nyanza tournament follows the highly successful Nairobi edition held two weeks ago at Dandora Stadium, where Mseto from Dagoretti and Achievers from Ongata Rongai were crowned champions.
In addition to Nairobi, the tournament has also toured Central, Western, North Rift, North Eastern, Eastern and Coast regions.
