FC Dynamo celebrates after lifting the Mashujaa Day Cup/HANDOUTKitui-based Division One side FC Dynamo is targeting to be the first team from the county to feature in the SportPesa League.
Coach Januaris Mwendwa stated that they aim to compete in the top-tier league within two to three years.
"Ukambani region has football talent. We want to qualify for NSL and KPL to shut down haters who claim that there is no (football) talent here," he remarked.
Speaking after beating AFC Leopards Youth 1-0 to win the Mashujaa Day Cup, Mwendwa said: "This will motivate the players. It's a morale booster for the boys ahead of the league kick-off. This was like a Community Shield for us."
Mwendwa and team captain, Meshack Makau, hailed the government for constructing Ithookwe Stadium.
"We don't take this gesture from the government for granted. We now have a proper homeground," noted the youthful tactician.
"This is what we have been missing," added Makau.
On the hard-fought win over AFC Leopards Youth, Makau added: "It was a tough game, but we gave our best and emerged winners. We were resilient and defended well."
Enoch Ouma scored the winning goal through a fifth-minute penalty kick.
Dynamo banked Sh500,000, a trophy, and medals, while Leopards Youth received Sh300,000 and medals.
Meanwhile, Makueni County Para Volleyball team humbled Kitui Sitting Volleyball team 3-0 at the same venue.
"Disabled people have talent, and if given a chance, they can showcase their talents. I'm happy for the three-set win, and now we are going to celebrate," said Makueni Para Volleyball team captain Justus Katumo.
The matches were organised by the Ministry of Sports as part of the 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations.
