Kenya’s Scola Onsongo says her Uganda swing has given her fresh confidence ahead Kwita Nzina tournament in mid-October in Kigali, Rwanda.
Onsongo described the Kampala leg as a rare chance to test herself against seasoned talent and a learning curve that sharpened her game.
Onsongo will round off her three-course tour today at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa on September 27 at Entebbe Golf Club after tackling Uganda Golf Club on September 29. “I was highly honoured to have played alongside the club’s resident golf pro, Joseph Mawejje, on September 29, 2025,” she said.
Onsongo only picked up the sport during the Covid-19 pandemic, yet her rapid climb has already seen her drop her handicap into the mid-20s and has collected multiple staff winner awards on the KCB East Africa Golf Tour.
Among them, a 46 stableford points finish at Nyali off handicap 31 and tee off internationally from Japan’s Caledonian Golf Club during the Sakura season to the windy Fish River Sun in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, with further stops in Mauritius, Ghana and more than 40 courses worldwide.
“I started playing golf during COVID when I was searching for a new challenge, and the journey has been incredible,” she said.
She added that the Uganda tour gave her the platform to raise her standards while preparing to push Kenya’s flag higher in Rwanda.
Her story is quickly evolving from staff category victories to signs of competitiveness in open brackets, the data from her scores showing steady growth and her role extending beyond performance to youth mentorship through the Junior Golf Foundation.
This, according to her, positions her as a figure of inspiration for women golfers across the region. As she shifts her focus to Rwanda, Onsongo carries with her not just individual ambition but also the wider vision of bridging East African fairways with the international stage.
