KANU supporters awaiting President William Ruto at Kabarak on October 10, 2025

President William Ruto has arrived at the Kabarak home of Kanu chairman Gideon Moi, where the independence party leader is hosting over 3,000 members and supporters in a major political gathering.

The meeting comes just a day after Moi bowed out of the Baringo Senate race, ending days of speculation about his next political move.

During the event, Moi is expected to address his supporters and explain the decision to withdraw from the contest.

On Thursday, the Kanu leader failed to appear before the IEBC in Kabarnet to submit his nomination papers, sparking tension among his supporters who had gathered to receive him.

His withdrawal cleared the way for UDA’s Kiprono Chemitei, who was later cleared by the electoral body.

Moi’s decision followed a meeting with President Ruto at State House on Wednesday, where the Head of State reportedly persuaded him to step down in favor of the UDA candidate.

Several UDA leaders, including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, have already arrived at the Kabarak residence ahead of Ruto’s visit.

Moi is said to have convened a private session with party delegates before the speeches.

Reports suggest that Kanu has agreed to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of the 2027 elections, though it remains unclear whether Moi will be offered a formal role in government.

The visit marks the first time President Ruto is setting foot at the Moi family home in recent years.

In April 2019, while serving as Deputy President, Ruto was reportedly blocked from meeting the late retired President Daniel arap Moi, a move that strained further the relations between the two families.
